News & Events

My name is Autumn Schneider and I am asking for your help. On August 4, 2014 the Kenton County Board of Education approved to name the Scott High School Soccer field after Cameron Kelly Batson. Cameron was a student athlete and art student at Scott High School. Cameron was a former soccer player, that collapsed and died on the field on October 6, 2010 while scrimmaging with the current team. He had suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. After the autopsy report, his younger brother Logan, also a soccer player was diagnosed with the same life threatening conditioning arrthymogenic right ventricular dysplasia. Logan also a student athlete at Scott was no longer allowed to participate in any strenuous activity.

After Cameron’s death, his parents, Dave and Laura Batson established Cameron’s Cause a nonprofit organization along with NKEMS,Inc. that has placed more than sixty Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in schools and sporting arenas at no charge. They have made it their mission to better educate schools and communities about sudden cardiac arrests and AEDs. They have partnered with Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati and continue to work with the Heart Institute to provide heart screenings for teens.
I am asking for your help with raising money for the sign Cameron Kelly Batson Field to be placed on the Press Box facing the soccer field at Scott There will also be two boulders placed onsite with plaques one with Cameron’s Story the other regarding Cameron’s Cause. The Eagle Club at Scott is sponsoring a Run/Walk to be held at Scott on November 1, 2014 at 9:00am. I am asking for all sports, clubs, and students to come out and support this event. If you could pass this flyer on to your parent representative or whomever helps with emails to the team members and parents. I have also set up a Memorial Fund at Fifth Third Bank called Cameron Kelly Batson Field Memorial Fund. Anyone can go in and make a deposit to help fund this. They could also mail their donations with check made out to Cameron’s Field to c/o Autumn Schneider, 746 Vincent Drive, Taylor Mill, Ky 41015. Scott High School has an alumni website that has this information and can make a contribution with a credit card that way. We would just like to raise enough money to get this done and it would be a great way for the community to support this family that has suffered a great tragic loss. Thanks for your consideration; hopefully you will be able to help.

See attached flyer for more info.

Our second screening is coming up on March 19, 2014! It will be held at Finneytown High School and is open to students of Finneytown Middle and High Schools between the ages of 13 and 19. Screenings are by appointment only. We hope all students will consider getting screened as sudden cardiac arrest can and does happen to anyone, athlete or not, and getting a thorough screening can help unnecessary deaths. Thanks to our partners, Cincinnati Children’s HospitalNKEMS, and the help of your donations for making this possible!

Thank you to all the volunteers and those who donated food for the screening! We were able to screen 175 students, 5 of which were found to have heart problems which necessitated their restriction from sports. We hope that, through help from our sponsors and your donations, we have helped protect these children and that we can continue to do so at our next screening.

AED Donations

As of December 2012, Cameron’s Cause has donated 50 AEDs to area schools and sporting/event facilities, while providing valuable education and training sessions and conducting screening to protect the young hearts around our community.

Cameron’s Cause provides AEDs equipped with Real CPR Help. This system helps responders by giving real-time feedback that helps determine depth and rate of compressions in situations where, at first, no shock is advised.
